Can you shower with silver jewelry?

Yes. Our jewelry is made of 100% recycled sterling silver, with no plating. You can shower with both necklaces and earrings. One small thing to keep in mind: soap and water make earrings more slippery. The first time you shower with earrings, check that they sit firmly. For extra safety, you can use our plastic backstops. You can add them for free with your order.

How to keep earrings from falling off in the water

Soap and water make earrings more slippery, so they can fall off more easily in the shower or in the water. This is true for earrings without a backstop. Use our free plastic backstops for a safer fit. Then they stay in place, whether you shower, bathe, or swim.

Does silver turn dark in chlorine or salt water?

Silver can sometimes turn darker in chlorine or salt water. How much depends on the water and on your skin. Some people see no change at all. Others notice the silver looks a little duller after a summer in the pool.

The good news: this is not permanent. A soft polishing cloth makes the silver bright again. So even if the silver turns darker, the piece is not damaged. You can always bring back the shine.

Can you swim with gold jewelry?

Real 18K gold is not affected by chlorine or salt water. This means you can swim in the pool or in the sea, and the gold will keep its color. It is simply the easy choice if you spend a lot of time in and around water.

There is a difference between solid gold and gold plating. Our gold jewelry is made of solid 18K recycled gold all the way through, in yellow, white, and rose gold. Gold-plated jewelry has only a thin layer of gold on top of another metal. That thin layer can wear off, so plated jewelry does not handle water as well. With solid gold, you do not have this problem.

Is stainless steel jewelry water-resistant?

Stainless steel usually handles water and chlorine well. Still, there is a small chance it will rust over time. Wipe the jewelry dry after a swim or shower, and keep it in a box when you do not wear it.

Can you shower with brass jewelry?

Brass is a sensitive metal. It oxidizes easily when it gets wet, so we do not recommend showering or swimming with brass jewelry. It is a little more resistant when the core is brass and the surface is gold-plated. Even then, handle it with care, and keep it away from chemicals like hair spray or perfume.
