What is gold plating?
MNOP Jewelry EN |19/07, 2022
Gold plating is the process of putting a super thin layer of gold onto a different metal. At MNOP Jewelry we do not gold plate any jewelry. The reason is simple: Sustainability.
Cyanide is used when gold-plating.
When you gold plate you need to dissolve the gold into a liquid and then electroplate the gold onto the metal. But gold is a precious metal and therefore hard to dissolve. In order to dissolve it, you have to use strong chemicals like cyanide.
Gold-Plating is not hard-wearing
The layer of gold is super thin and will wear off over time. Thus showing the underlying metal. Then you have to replate the jewelry using even more chemicals. MNOP Jewelry strives to make hardwearing jewelry. Therefore plating is out!
