What is a moissanite stone?

Moissanite is an alternative to diamond that is durable and fits perfectly in engagement rings. Moissanites consist of silicon carbide and are extremely rare to find in the natural environment, the ones that can be bought are thus lab-grown varieties. This is also why moissanite is a more environmentally friendly alternative than mined gemstones!

Moissanite vs Diamond

So, what is the difference between moissanite and diamond. At first glance, the moissanite is strikingly similar to the diamond in appearance, however, the moissanite can be perceived more vividly with its play of colors. The stone sparkles a little more than the diamond and almost shimmers a little in color. It also has a hardness almost as strong as the diamond at 9.5 versus the diamond's 10 on the Mohs scale. The diamond tops the scale that ends at 10 but as the moissanite comes close behind only further demonstrates its wear and scratch resistance. It is therefore durable for daily use and maintains its appearance and shine strongly over time. Hence perfect in engagement rings and wedding rings!

An additional plus for the moissanite is that it is significantly cheaper than the diamond. Often you want a sparkling stone in your engagement ring, a larger variant or perhaps more than one stone. Of course, this increases the final price and the budget breaks or you have to compromise with your own desire. Since moissanite is cheaper than the diamond, it is therefore a good alternative if you want a bigger stone on a smaller budget!

So is moissanite a good alternative?

Absolutely, in appearance the moissanite does not differ negatively compared to the diamond, it is cheaper and also more ethically appealing as it is a more environmentally friendly alternative. As you can see, we have the choices and you make the decision!
