What is a moissanite stone?

Moissanite is an alternative to diamonds that is very durable and has many other benefits in comparison. Moissanites consist of silicon carbide and are extremely rare to find in a natural environment, which means that the ones that can be bought are lab-grown varieties. This is also why moissanite is a more environmentally friendly alternative compared to mined gemstones!

Moissanite vs Diamond

So, what is the difference between a moissanite and a diamond. At first glance, the moissanite is strikingly similar to the diamond in appearance, however, the moissanite can be perceived as more vivid with its play of colors. The stone sparkles a bit more than the diamond and almost shimmers a little in color. It also has a hardness almost as strong as the diamond at 9.5 versus the diamond's 10 on the Mohs scale. The diamond tops the scale that ends at 10, but as the moissanite comes so close behind only further demonstrates its wear and scratch resistance. Therefore, it is durable for daily use and maintains its appearance and brilliance strongly over time. Hence, a perfect alternative to diamonds!

An additional plus for the moissanite is that it is significantly cheaper than the diamond.
