Can I shower with my jewelry on?

Being able to wear your favorite jewelry around the clock without taking it off is nothing more than practical. Many prefer to wear their beloved accessories even by the poolside before they take a plunge into the water. Showering and taking baths do discolor jewelry, and it’s quite a shame when the everyday glitz looks dull. Stones and other decorations can fall off due to wear and tear. In the following article, we explain if different necklaces and earrings are resistant to water.

What kind of jewelry can you shower with?

MNOP’s jewelry is made of recycled silver without a gold plating. It’s perfectly OK to shower with both silver necklaces and earrings. However, they can get discolored when you swim in a pool with chlorine or in salt water.

Can I shower with gold jewelry on?

Jewelry of pure gold is resistant to water. In fact, gold is not affected by chlorine or salt water.  On the other hand, it is not advisable to shower with 18K gold plating which only covers the surface. Keep in mind that some earrings can fall off, especially when you are in the shower. Soap and water decrease friction and contribute to the earring falling off. This especially applies to earrings without a backstop, like mini huggies or climbers. We provide free plastic backstop for these earrings for a safer fit. Gold jewelry is often given as a nice gift and holds high personal value. In other words, something you don’t want to lose!

What types of necklaces and other jewelry are resistant to water?

Usually, stainless steel is very durable even when exposed to water and chlorine. Still, there’s a slight chance that the jewelry will get rusty eventually. Wipe it off after a swim or shower and keep them in a small box when not being used.

Can I shower with brass jewelry on?

Brass is a pretty sensitive metal that oxidizes easily. We don't recommend showering with the brass jewelry on. It is somewhat more resistant if the core of the jewelry is made of brass and the plating is gold. It still needs to be handled with care and not get in touch with chemicals from eg. hair spray or perfume.
